Privacy Policy
Last updated: 21 October 2026
1. Who we are, and what this policy covers
Nevora Ecovolt Private Limited ("Nevora", "we", "us") operates a residential electric-vehicle charging service for housing societies in India. Under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 ("DPDP Act") and the rules made under it, Nevora is the Data Fiduciary for the personal data described here. Until the DPDP Act is fully in force, the Information Technology Act, 2000 and the Information Technology (Reasonable Security Practices and Procedures and Sensitive Personal Data or Information) Rules, 2011 also apply, and we follow both.
This policy covers:
- the Nevora CORE app for residents, on Android and iOS;
- the committee portal used by a housing society's resident welfare association (RWA);
- the operations portal used by Nevora's own staff;
- our website, and the charging hardware and gateway devices installed in a society that report to our servers.
It does not cover the housing society itself, your vehicle manufacturer, or any payment provider's own handling of your data, each of which has its own policy. Where this policy names one of them, we say what we send them and why.
2. What we collect, and why — itemised
We collect only what the service needs. The DPDP Act asks us to tell you each item and its purpose; this section is that notice.
2.1 Identity and sign-in
| Item | Why | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Mobile number | Your sign-in identity; one account per number; delivery of one-time codes | Stored encrypted; matched at sign-in through a keyed one-way index, so the plain number is never searched |
| Your name | Shown to your society's committee when they approve you, and on your own screens | Stored encrypted |
| One-time sign-in code | Proves the phone is yours | Six digits, expires in minutes, ten attempts, then a new code is needed. Sent over WhatsApp (see §5) |
| Session tokens | Keep you signed in | In the app: a short-lived token (15 minutes) and a refresh token (30 days), kept in your phone's secure storage. In a web portal: a sign-in ends after 30 minutes unused and after 12 hours at most, and is kept only in that browser tab. Revoked when you sign out. A record of each sign-in — which app or portal, when it began and ended — is kept 90 days after it ends |
| Password and authenticator secret | Committee and operations users only — portal sign-in with two-step verification | Residents do not have passwords. A password is kept only as a one-way hash; the authenticator secret is stored encrypted |
| Email address | Nevora's operations staff only — the address their gate code is sent to | Stored encrypted |
| The kind of browser and device, in a few words (for example "Chrome on Windows") | Portal sign-ins only — shown to the account holder when a wrong code locked their sign-in, and kept with the sign-in record | Never a device identifier |
2.2 Where you live
| Item | Why | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Society (community) and the join code you entered | Attach your account to the right society; only that society's chargers are shown to you | |
| Block and flat number, as you typed it | The committee approves the person who actually lives in that flat, and sees when two people claim one flat | Shown to the committee and to Nevora staff; not to other residents |
| Membership status and the committee's decision | Whether you may charge; who approved or refused you, when, and the reason given | A refusal reason is a fixed picklist; a free-text note from the committee is shown to you in the app only |
| Whether you asked Nevora to decide, and who decided: your committee, a resident of your own flat, or Nevora | Your committee decides first; after a day, or if you ask, Nevora may decide; an approved resident of your flat may confirm you | A resident of your flat sees your name and flat only |
| Images you choose to send Nevora to show you live there (a gate-app screen, your car's parking sticker, a maintenance receipt, your society's residents' WhatsApp group, your door) | So Nevora can confirm you when your committee does not. We never ask for a rental agreement, a bill or an ID | Optional. Stored encrypted, with a photo's location data removed; seen only by Nevora staff; never shown to your committee; deleted as soon as your request is decided, and at the latest 14 days after you send it. Only which kind of image decided it is kept |
| If you ask Nevora for your society's code: the society name, flat and city you typed | So Nevora can find your society and send you its code on WhatsApp | Deleted 90 days after Nevora answers |
2.3 Your vehicle
| Item | Why | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Make, model and variant | Identify the car at the charger and in your history | Chosen from a catalogue of Indian EVs where possible |
| Battery capacity, on-board charger limit, connector type | Safety and allocation inputs. The load manager budgets current per vehicle and must know what a vehicle can draw and which chargers physically fit it | Copied from the catalogue; a hand-typed pack size is marked as such and given no weight in fairness ranking |
| Registration number | Tell one resident's vehicle from another's at a shared charger | Stored encrypted. Not verified against any government register |
| Charge level and target you type, and a "needed by" time, if you enter them | Show you an estimated finishing time and stop the charge at your target | Never used to rank you against neighbours (see §4.2). We cannot read your car's real battery level; the figure is your estimate |
We do not connect to your vehicle manufacturer's account. If we offer that later, it will need your separate, explicit consent, and the tokens involved will be protected like payment credentials.
2.4 Charging and booking records
| Item | Why | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Each charging session: charger, connector, start and end, energy delivered, the charger's opening and closing meter readings, why it ended | Your history, your bill, and the record that settles a dispute ("you overcharged me", "my car charged slowly") | Meter readings are the charger's own figures, kept as a pair because energy is the difference between them |
| Meter samples during a session (energy, power, current) | Live progress in the app; checking the charger obeyed its limit; safety | Raw samples kept 90 days; totals kept |
| The current (amps) the load manager gave your session, and why | Explain in one sentence why one car got more than another | Kept 180 days |
| Your bookings on shared chargers | Prevent two residents booking one charger; no-shows | |
| When charging finished and when the cable came out | Records idle occupancy of a shared charger. Recorded now; not priced yet. Any idle charge in future needs your society's agreement and notice to you | |
| Your flat's consumption over the last seven days | The fairness term of allocation: a flat that has charged less recently ranks higher | A rolling figure, not a profile |
2.5 Technical data
| Item | Why | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Your network address (IP) at the time of a request | Rate-limiting sign-in and code requests per network, and abuse prevention | Limits are keyed on the network, not stored as a browsing history. It is recorded with the actions in our audit log — every action our staff and your society's committee take, a sign-in to one of our web portals or a wrong password there, and closing or restoring your account — and kept one year (§8) |
| Request identifiers and server logs | Diagnose failures; the reference number shown on an error screen | Logs are operational, not analytics |
| Timestamps from your charger's and the gateway's clocks | Place meter readings correctly in time | |
| A crash or error report, when the app fails | Find and fix what went wrong | What failed and where in the app's code, the app's version, your phone's model and operating system and its state at the time (memory, battery, screen size, language and time-zone settings), and when. Never your name, number, flat, vehicle, location or network address, a screenshot, or anything you typed or tapped. Sent to Sentry (§6.3), which is set not to keep the network address a report arrives from, and kept up to 90 days (§8) |
What the app does not collect. No location tracking, no contacts, no photos or files, no advertising identifier, no fingerprinting. The app asks for the camera only when you open the scanner to read the sticker on a charger; the image is decoded on your phone and never uploaded. There is no analytics or advertising SDK in the app; its only reporting is the crash and error report above.
2.6 Payments and your wallet
You pay for charging from a prepaid wallet in the app. Adding money opens Razorpay's checkout, a payment aggregator regulated by the Reserve Bank of India: the card number, UPI ID or bank sign-in you enter there go to Razorpay, never to us, and we neither see nor store them. What we keep: each top-up (the amount, when, and Razorpay's order and payment references), each charge to your wallet with its tax invoice, any credit note or refund, and your balance — in whole paise. We use them to charge you, give you invoices, settle disputes, return unused balance under the Refund Policy, and keep the books the law requires.
If you choose, your invoices can be made out to a business name instead of your own, and carry your GST number (GSTIN) so you can claim the tax back. Both are optional, stored encrypted, printed only on your own invoices, seen by Nevora's staff only when they handle your invoices, and never shown to your society's committee. A change applies to invoices issued afterwards; an invoice already issued keeps the name and number it was issued with, for as long as the law requires us to keep it (§6).
If a refund cannot go back to the payment method it came from, we ask — at that time, with your consent, and never as a condition of anything — for a bank account in your own name, and use it for that refund only.
2.7 Committee and operations users
If you sign in to the committee or operations portal, we additionally keep your role, the societies you may act for, your two-step verification secret, and an audit record of every privileged action you take — what changed, when, and the reason you gave — with the network it came from, kept beside the record for one year. Audit records cannot be edited or deleted, by anyone, including Nevora.
3. What we use your data for
- To sign you in and keep your account safe — the one-time code, tokens, rate limits.
- To let your society decide who may charge — the committee sees your name, flat and masked mobile number to approve or refuse you.
- To charge your car and share the building's power fairly — the load manager sets the current each charger may draw so that no electrical phase ever exceeds the board's safe limit (see §4).
- To bill you correctly, when billing is enabled — meter readings, session totals, tariff and invoices.
- To keep people and buildings safe — safety events, fault investigation, a permanent record when a limit was breached or a charger misbehaved.
- To explain ourselves — why a session got the current it did, why a start was refused, why a booking was declined.
- To communicate with you — sign-in codes now; service notices later.
- To meet our legal duties — tax and accounting records once billing is live, lawful requests from authorities, and breach reporting.
We do not sell personal data, do not use it for advertising, and do not profile you for any purpose other than the fairness ranking described in §4.
4. Automated decisions: how the load manager treats you
This is the part of the service that acts on your data without a person in the loop, so we describe it plainly.
4.1 The safety rule
Every charger in a society is wired to a distribution board with a fixed safe limit per electrical phase, set by the electrician who surveyed it. Our load manager recomputes, for each board, how much current each active session may draw so that no phase ever exceeds that limit. Every active session is first guaranteed a minimum (6 A, the IEC 61851 floor), a safety margin is held back, and only the remainder is shared. This can mean your car charges more slowly than the charger's rating, or is paused briefly when the board is full. It never means the board is overloaded to serve you.
4.2 The fairness rule
When there is not enough current for everyone, sessions are ranked by a score built only from measured facts: energy delivered so far this session, time connected, your vehicle's battery capacity (from the catalogue), the charger's rating, and your flat's consumption over the last seven days. The charge level or deadline you type is used only to show you an estimated finishing time. It can never raise your rank — so nobody gains by typing an urgent number. Every decision is written to a log, with the score and each of its terms, so we can tell you in one sentence why your car got the current it did. You may ask for that explanation (§8).
4.3 What the software may never do
It may only ever set the current a charger delivers, within the board's limit. No AI or model writes a current value; a model may at most influence a priority score or a forecast. A charger that ignores its limit is budgeted at its full rating and, as a last resort, stopped — a safety measure, recorded as such.
5. Legal basis
- Consent (DPDP Act s.6) — given when you create your account, for the purposes in §3. You may withdraw it at any time (§8); the consequence is that we can no longer provide the service to you, and withdrawal does not undo processing already done.
- Certain legitimate uses (DPDP Act s.7) — data you volunteer for a stated purpose (a vehicle you add, a booking you make); compliance with law and lawful orders; and responding to a safety emergency at a charger.
- Where the IT Act and SPDI Rules apply, the same consent is the basis for handling sensitive personal data, and §6 describes our reasonable security practices.
6. Who sees your data
6.1 Your housing society's committee
The committee portal shows your society's committee, for residents of that society only:
- to approve you: your name, flat, the last four digits of your mobile number, and when you asked, and whether another resident has claimed the same flat;
- once you are a resident: when you joined and who approved you; your car's make and model and a masked registration (the state and the last four digits, like "KA 51 •• 8842"); whether you are charging now; when and on which charger you last charged; and how many charges and how much energy this month;
- on each charger: its charges by flat — when each started and ended and the energy delivered — and its bookings by flat, including missed bookings and cars left plugged in after they finished;
- a spreadsheet of the charges on any dates they choose: for each charge, the day, when it started and ended, the flat, the charger, the minutes and the energy. It never holds your name, number, car or what you paid, and Nevora records every download.
They do not see your full mobile number, your full registration, your wallet, payments or invoices, the charge level you type, or anything about another society. They may report a charger as unsafe, and may stop a charge only on a ground our server checks (§4 of the Terms of Service), with a reason you see in the app.
6.2 Nevora's operations staff
Our staff can see everything in §2 for the societies they support, including your name and flat beside each session, because settling a dispute or investigating a fault requires it. Access is by role, needs two-step sign-in, and every privileged action is recorded in an audit log that cannot be altered. Mobile numbers are masked on every screen that does not need the full number.
6.3 Service providers (processors)
| Provider | What they receive | Why | Where |
|---|---|---|---|
Amazon Web Services (Asia Pacific — Mumbai, ap-south-1) | Everything: our servers, database and backups run there | Hosting | India |
| Meta Platforms (WhatsApp Business / Cloud API) | Your mobile number and the sign-in code message | Delivering one-time codes | Meta's infrastructure; the number is already known to WhatsApp as your account |
| Razorpay | From us: the amount and an order reference. From you, in its checkout: the payment details you enter, which go to Razorpay directly | Taking payment; issuing refunds to your payment method | India |
| Cloudflare | Domain name lookups (DNS) for every address. For Nevora's staff only: the operations portal at root.nevoraeco.in is reached through Cloudflare (Cloudflare Access and Cloudflare Tunnel), so a staff member's email address and the pages they open — which can include residents' details — pass through Cloudflare's network. The app, and the society portal at rwa.nevoraeco.in, do not pass through Cloudflare | Name resolution; protecting the staff portal | Cloudflare's global network |
| Sentry (Functional Software, Inc.) — the resident app only | A crash or error report (§2.5): what failed, the app's version, and your phone's model and state at the time; never your name, number, flat, location or network address | Finding and fixing faults in the app | Germany (Sentry's EU region, Frankfurt) |
| Google Fonts — web portals only | The requesting browser's IP address, when a portal loads its typeface | Rendering the portal | Google. The resident app does not use it |
| Google (Workspace and Gmail) | Emails you send us — support, grievances, requests about your data — and our replies | Our correspondence | India and other countries where Google operates |
| Apple App Store, Google Play | Whatever their own terms state for app distribution; nothing from our servers | Distribution | Their infrastructure |
Each provider acts on our instructions under a contract. We do not send your data to anyone else, and we do not transfer it outside India except as shown above for code delivery, DNS, our email, the app's crash reports, and Nevora staff's use of the operations portal.
6.4 Authorities
We disclose personal data when a law, court or authority in India requires it, and only what is required. We keep a record of such requests.
7. Where your data is kept, and how it is protected
- In India. Servers, database and backups are in the AWS Mumbai region.
- Encrypted in transit — TLS on every connection from the app, the portals, the chargers and the gateway devices.
- Encrypted at rest, field by field — mobile numbers, names, email addresses, vehicle registration numbers and any vehicle-manufacturer identifiers are encrypted with AES-256-GCM before they reach the database, under a key held outside the database. The server's disk is encrypted too.
- Sign-in codes are short-lived, limited to ten attempts, and rate-limited per network. Staff accounts need a password and an authenticator app.
- Two logs cannot be edited by anyone: the safety event log and the audit log. The database itself refuses the change.
- Backups are taken nightly to storage in Mumbai and kept for 30 days; an expired backup is deleted for good 30 days after that.
- Least data by design: the app holds no location, no contacts, no ads.
8. How long we keep it
We keep personal data only as long as its purpose requires, then delete or anonymise it. The periods below are built into the software as scheduled deletion, not left to memory.
| Data | Kept for |
|---|---|
| Your account, membership and vehicle details | While your account is active, then a 90-day grace period after you delete it — in the app or by asking us — (so a disputed charge or an open complaint can still be resolved, and so you can undo it by signing in again), then deleted or anonymised — unless a legal hold applies |
| Charging session totals (start, end, energy, meter readings, why it ended) | As records of what was delivered and, once billing is live, as accounting records: up to 8 years, as Indian company and tax law requires for books of account. Anonymised where the account is deleted and no hold applies |
| Raw meter samples during a session | 90 days |
| The current each session was given, and why | 180 days |
| Refused session starts | 180 days |
| Board current readings from the gateway | Raw readings 7 days, then per-minute summaries (no personal data) kept as the building's load history |
| Charger protocol messages | Meter messages 30 days; other messages 2 years (fault and dispute evidence) |
| Bookings | While your account is active, as part of your charging history. Upcoming bookings are cancelled when you delete your account; a booking a charge was delivered against stays with that charge's record. A booking that could not be made, and why, is kept 400 days |
| Safety events | Permanently. The safety record of the installation; it cannot be edited |
| Audit log of staff and committee actions, of portal sign-ins, and of accounts being deleted, restored and erased | Permanently — account identifiers, and for a sign-in which portal and the kind of browser; a deleted account's rows carry no name or number |
| The network address (IP) an audited action or a portal sign-in came from | 1 year, then deleted, as India's data protection rules ask of security logs; the record of the action stays without it |
| A wrong portal password at a number that holds no account (the network, the kind of browser, never the number) | 1 year, then deleted |
| A committee's requests to Nevora, and their conversation | The request is kept; its conversation 2 years after the request is closed |
| One-time codes | Minutes; deleted on use or expiry |
| Sign-in tokens | App: 15 minutes (access) / 30 days (refresh). Web portals: 30 minutes unused, 12 hours at most. Revoked on sign-out. The record of each sign-in: 90 days after it ends |
| Backups | 30 days, then automatically expired, and deleted for good 30 days later |
| A crash or error report from the app | Up to 90 days, then deleted by Sentry |
| Wallet ledger — top-ups, charges, invoices, credit notes, refunds — and payment references | 8 years, as Indian company and tax law requires for books of account. Kept against the anonymous account id where the account is deleted |
| Razorpay's notices to us about a payment | 180 days; the payment itself stays in the wallet ledger |
| A bank account you give us for a refund | Only for that refund, and only when it cannot go back to where the money came from; deleted once the refund is paid, except where the law requires us to keep it locked for longer |
| Support correspondence | Until the matter is closed, plus 1 year |
9. Your rights, and how to use them
Under the DPDP Act you may:
- Access — ask for a summary of the personal data we hold about you, the processing we do, and who we have shared it with.
- Correct, complete or update — your name, flat, vehicle details. Most of this you can change in the app under Profile; the rest, ask us.
- Erase — delete your account yourself in the app (Profile → Delete account; you confirm with a one-time code), or ask us. You are signed out of every device at once. Your personal details are erased after the 90-day grace period, subject to the retention holds in §8; signing in with your number before then lets you undo it. Step by step, with what is kept: Delete your Nevora account.
- Withdraw consent — at any time, with the same effect as erasure. This does not affect what was lawfully done before.
- Nominate — name a person to exercise these rights for you if you are unable to.
- Grievance redressal — complain to us and receive a reasoned answer.
- An explanation of an automated allocation — why your session got the current it did (§4.2). We hold the record and will tell you.
How: email the Grievance Officer (§13) from the mobile number or email on your account, or write to us. We will acknowledge within 48 hours and resolve it within one month. If you are not satisfied, you may approach the Data Protection Board of India once our internal process is exhausted. Requests that would reveal another person's data, or that we must refuse to meet a legal obligation, will be answered with the reason.
10. Children
The service is for adults who own or drive an electric vehicle. You must be 18 or older to hold an account. We do not knowingly collect a child's data; if we learn we have, we delete it.
12. If something goes wrong
If personal data is lost, exposed or altered without authority, we will contain it, tell the Data Protection Board of India and the people affected in the form and time the DPDP Act and its rules require, report the incident to CERT-In within the time its directions require, and tell you what happened, what data was involved, and what we are doing about it. We will not wait for the investigation to finish before telling you.
13. Contact and grievances
Data Fiduciary: Nevora Ecovolt Private Limited Registered office: #198, CMH Road, Suite 3679, Indiranagar, Bengaluru 560038, Karnataka, India CIN: U46529KA2026PTC218860 · GSTIN: 29AALCN5148E1Z7
Grievance Officer (DPDP Act; IT Rules): Elvis J George, Director Email: [email protected] · Post: the registered office above Acknowledgement within 48 hours; resolution within one month.
You may escalate an unresolved grievance to the Data Protection Board of India.
14. Changes to this policy
We will change this policy when the service changes — for example when payments are enabled or a new provider is added. Material changes will be announced in the app before they take effect, with the date, and the previous version kept available on request. Continuing to use the service after the effective date means the new version applies; if you do not agree, you may withdraw consent (§9).
15. Governing law
This policy is governed by the laws of India. Courts in Bengaluru, Karnataka have jurisdiction, without limiting your right to approach the Data Protection Board of India or a consumer forum.
